21 Jun Sprout!
We’re taking our practice into uncharted territory. After significant feedback and demand, we’ve successfully pitched our first children’s work, “Sprout.”
Sprout is a story about friendship. We will develop existing methodologies and practices (developed initially in Claire) to create a performance whose target audience is children, youth, and their families. The work willuse dance, voice (both recorded and spoken word), and storytelling to explore friendship.
—That people do not have to be the same to be friends
—That it is not about us, but what we do together
—That without each other plants cannot grow; tomorrow will not be as bright if we do not work together.
The goal for this project is to further expand our choreographic skill-set to captivate a young audience while entertaining and inspiring them to make art and culture and dance a bigger part of their lives. —Not only because of personal experiences as a participant (perhaps in the Interactive Dance Awareness Programming that we have developed), but because they were, also, a member of the audience that had the opportunity to experience a unique performance designed for them.
Special thanks to BC Arts and the Province of British Columbia for being the first funder to invest in the project.
Once we get into these studio this fall Sprout will be featured in our Performance Portfolio. Check-back soon!
