09 Nov ‘Cecilia’ Premiere in Santa Maria, Açores
SQx’s Digital Co-Creation with CIRCE – Experimental Platform for Dance and Theatre (Tbilisi, Georgia) , Cecilia, was screened twice in Santa Maria, Açores, Portugal, as part of two different European Cooperation projects. Once as part of “Applications for Choreology in Disrupting Behaviours” and another during “Roots: Learn Where you Live”. At each event, Cecilia was screened as part of a double-bill alongside “A Ilha Dos Gigantes”, a film that was presented on National Geographic.
About Cecilia
Cecilia was created at the height of COVID-19 restrictions. However, despite the pandemic, we experimented with making art in new sustainable ways. We set-out to make a performance that would be created and presented entirely digitally with the hope of promoting green mobility. We used isolation and restriction as an opportunity to deepen the aesthetics of the work and develop new ways to reach our audiences.
In terms of theme, we experimented with wind as a metaphor for perseverance and women’s empowerment—with a bit of whimsy. Dancing through windy conditions is he heartbeat of our poem symbolizing women’s resiliency despite distress, hardship, and set-backs. Women experience pressure to follow a certain direction. Nevertheless, in our dance, the artists attempt to move against the direction that the wind blows—showing their strength and spirit.
PPV Release
We’re excited to announce that SQx’s PPV development is afoot. Cecilia will be available to stream via our PPV service in the 2023 new-year. Subscribe to our newsletter to stay informed about the film’s official release date.
Lastly, we want to take a moment to thank everyone involved in the making of this project. From the creation, to the production and dissemination, words cannot express how appreciative we are of the outpouring of kindness and support we have received.
