28 Feb BC Social Innovation Youth Award Winner
This February, SQx Executive Director, Carmen was presented with the BC Social Innovation Youth Award. This award is designated for young people working to improve the social outcomes of others.
The purpose of this recognition is to award those who have constructed a positive, creative and innovative impact for the betterment of communities. These innovations are meant to create solutions to chronic social issues within society.
Despite being a dance company, our mission at SQx is not just about creating and performing contemporary dance. Instead, we uses dance to promote kinship, collaboration and teamwork. Delivering a positive, inclusive artistic experience to young people in primary and secondary schools throughout Western Canada. At SQx, we seek out communities that are often underserved and underrepresented where exposure to the arts is a rare experience.
Upon receiving the award, Carmen expressed that, “It was humbling to be honoured with so many innovative leaders across the province. I was very grateful for the networking opportunities that gatherings like these help promote. I look forward to receiving continued mentorship from the Ministry of Social Development and Social Innovation.”
The BC Social Innovation Youth Awards are funded by the Ministry of Social Development and Social Innovation and supported by Radius SFU.
